;D d**n! It's good to be home again. Most of last year was spent ankle-deep in FNQ floodwater and you can get sick of that I assure you. . . at least I did. so, I'm in my old camp towards Kanowna, enjoying the dry conditions with the occasional rain shower to settle the dust. The old Ute has not let me down; a little weaping from the fuel-pump and the occasional destroyed tyre, but that was it mostly. I DID TAKE MY 4'' ANGLE GRINDER to the roo-bar and stone guard to increase the airflow to the radiator, but that was it. We're pretty often seen around Kal as I do my thing so, by all means, don't feel shy in giving me a hoy and taking me to lunch. I'm not known for knocking-back a free feed. ;D more in a while daza

Thanks guys, I haven't had access to the web for a long time. I'll likely resume my Ute posts for those that have followed that project which may mean republishing the old posts, but maybe as a download. I'll see what happens now I have a little time and a decent connection.
Good to see there's still people reading.
regards daza

Struth! amazing.
I was in Perth off and on over the last two-months chesta. Mostly in or around hospital unfortunetely, but I should be around Kal for awhile unless it gets too hot and then, I'll go on holiday. . . somewhere wet with a breeze.
I carted those posters around all over Australia for thirty-years but they have gone to a collector in Melbourne. If I hadn't put them into her hands they would have been lost entirely I reckon. I think she would consider putting them into a collection. Not sure now if she would have changed her mind.

Hi Daza,
A group of us are having a bit of a gathering at Ora Banda in mid April for a few days. All staying at the pub caravan park. If you're in the area pop in & say hi.
Cheers

Hey I am thinking of heading to WA in 2011. What do you think of the weather in September? I'm hoping to avoid the rains but also the worst of the heat.

G'day Chris, it would depend where you are going to be at that time of year. The north of the state is tropical and the south is bloody cold and wet with the winds ripping in from Antarctica.
Sept is starting to heat-up. Cooler nights and around 20's + C in the central areas during the day. The Pilbara would be a bit hotter I reckon, but I still haven't been there yet.
Rain? What's that? We haven't had much around Kal for years and years.
I will have a look at your book if I get the chance. Is it only for the US market?

Ooops! I forgot to specify. I meant the south of part WA, basically Meekatharra and points south of there to Kal and maybe even a bit further south. Thats a plenty big piece of country to explore.
I'm planning to spend about a month, arriving late August 2011, departing around the end of Sept.
20+ day temps seem pleasant enough, and even if its 5 degrees at night, thats no problem.
It would be just my luck that it will rain for 2 weeks straight when I arrive, though it might have been dry for 2 years before that.
I wanted to say enjoyed the comments on your web pages about the no-competition agreement between the fly and mosquito unions. I've read your web pages quite throughly.
The book was written to have a global flavour, and Australian deposits are mentioned as examples many times. It is available in many places in Australia, including for WA, Finders Keepers prospecting shop in Boulder, and at both the Prospectors Patch and Reeds in Perth. I got a funny comment on the book on another Australian forum: "WARNING THIS BOOK IS ADDICTIVE Opened My copy, and started Reading, it answers a lot riddles, Got so engrosed in it, No Smokes/No BEER?/No Supper/2am Genset dies, forgot to Fuelup Bugger" I just thought that was a great comment. So do you think you will get a chance to get out and do some prospecting this season now that the weather is cooling?

I was out today Chris, mostly exploring new ground for me. It's such a huge country this land of ours. I keep finding places I had no idea about. I'll need to borrow a few more lifetimes to get it done.
Today was about following tracks. Overgrown and washed-out mostly. I've got some images that I'll post for you later tonight. It's rugged country even this close to Kal. Most have been pushed by survey to get the drillers in over twenty-years ago.
Today I found an old camp. Probably woodcutters. I specked three coins: a shilling, threepence and a penny. not bad for a one-eyed-coot. ;D
